Macromorphology:

Resupinate to effuso-reflex, irpicoid to poroid, creme coloured, margin ligther. Pores walls up to 2 mm hight and up to 150 ╡m thick, 4-7 pores per mm, positive geotropical growth, subiculum without pores up to 2 mm thick.

Micromorphology:

Spores:
4-5 x 3-3.5 ╡m, ovoid, smooth, thin-walled, inamyloid, with one droplet each.
Basidia:
12-20 x 3-5 ╡m, young clavate, mature cylindric to suburniform, with one basal clamp each.
Sterigmata:
Four, 3 ╡m long.
Cystidia:
1. Lagenocystidia, basal ventricose, apical acute, up to 35 ╡m long, basal up to 5 ╡m in diameter and a litte thick-walled (<0.5 ╡m), apical with or without little crystals incrusted, which are not soluble in 5% KOH solution. The cystidia are often found on the base of pores.
2. Capitate cystidia (head up to 10 ╡m in diameter ) located in the subiculum and in the hymenium.
Clamps:
All primary septa with one clamp each.
Hyphae:
Hyphal system pseudodimitic. Skelettoid hyphae 3-5 ╡m in diameter, thick-walled (up to 1.5 ╡m), mainly present in pores walls. Generative hyphae 2-3.5 ╡m in diameter, slightly thick-walled (0.5-1 ╡m). Subiculum constructed of loosely running hyphal, pore walls with demsely running hyphae, no subhymenium (hymenium not thickening).
Pores:
Hyphal endings of the pores margins strongly incrusted with crystals, which are not soluble in 5% KOH solution.

Habitate and substrate:

Substrate mainly deciduous forests: e.g. Fagus, Quercus, Betula, Hagenia. Rarely on conifers wood: Picea.

Biogeography:

Specimens from all over the continents point to an world wide distribution (compare with Sch. paradoxa ).

Remarks:

Poria flavipora Cke. is the oldest synonym for the small pored, resupinate to effuso-reflex representatives of the genus Schizopora with pseudodimitic hyphal systems. Sch. flavipora and Sch. cystidiata are very similar. Both of them have lagenocystidia, wich are incrusted apically with crystals. The morphology of tropical specimens of Sch. flavipora is variable. Resupinate and pileate basidiocarps often show the same micromorphology. Sch. flavipora could therefor perhaps belong to a complex of species. Similar species with thick-walled, subicular hyphae could be delimited by their basidiocarps and the morphology of cystidia.
